Later this month would have marked Jake’s 67th Birthday. Sadly, he passed away in 2019 as a result of complications from recurring cancer. Today, we are excited to announce a new fund and initiative to honor Jake — the Jake Burton Carpenter Evolution Fund, which will allow Chill to serve youth in new and exciting ways that were important to Jake.
Jake was not only a champion of our work at Chill, he was a driving force behind our continual desire to innovate, progress, and grow so that the youth we serve will be given the joys of experiencing snowboarding and other boardsports without any barriers. For the first time in a comprehensive way, we will be able to provide Chill participants with regular gear giveaways, season passes, lift tickets, transportation, and retail vouchers throughout the season, after our participants’ initial experience in one of our programs has been successfully completed. In addition, the Fund will allow us to strengthen our ongoing focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, career exploration opportunities in the outdoor industry, and will give talented Chill riders a path to Burton sponsorship — fostering progression, providing coaching, travel opportunities, and sponsorships for competitions.
It is our hope that launching this fund will continue to give kids new opportunities and experiences that would make Jake proud of our continued innovation and progression as we continue to dismantle any barriers that are standing in the way of access and participation in boardsports. Help us continue to honor his legacy by making a gift today.
